F. Matthew Smith, MD, FACS
F. Matthew Smith, MD, FACS is certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. He earned his medical degree at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. His Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry was obtained at the University of Michigan.
Dr. Smith completed a General Surgery Residency at the University of Florida Health Science Center in Jacksonville, Florida. His second residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery was completed at Wayne State University-Detroit Medical Center. During the final year of each residency, Dr. Smith served as the Administrative Chief Resident.
As part of his comprehensive training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Smith completed a Microsurgical Course at the University of Louisville, as well as a cosmetic surgery externship at the prestigious Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital in New York City.
Dr. Smith has presented and published numerous plastic and reconstructive surgery and general surgery articles in the United States and abroad. He remains current with the latest techniques in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery by regularly attending medical conferences, seminars, and workshops.
Dr. Smith is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, and the Michigan State Medical Society. Dr. Smith serves as the Medical Director of the Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery Center at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City and was elected Chairperson of the Plastic Surgery Section. He also serves on a variety of committees at Munson Medical Center. Dr. Smith joined the team of adjunct professors for the Physician Assistant Program at Central Michigan University.
